If you need teeth extractions in San Ramon, California, be sure to contact Dr. Garth Riopelle to make an appointment for consultation and treatment.
Sometimes when you have damage to one or multiple teeth extraction is the preferred method of treatment. During your consultation, we will discuss all of your treatment options with you and help you decide if extraction is the best way forward. We will also discuss our financing options available to help you to fund whatever procedure you choose if required.
A tooth extraction involves removing a tooth completely from its socket in the bone. It is performed when a tooth has been so severely decayed or damaged that we are unable to save the tooth with any other treatment. Whenever possible, we will try to repair and restore a decayed tooth with a filling or crown first.
Sometimes we will also recommend an extraction when baby teeth do not fall out naturally or when you’re teeth are growing in a way that one tooth blocks another one from coming through. Wisdom tooth also often need to be removed by extraction in your late teens or early twenties.
Depending on the level of damage or location of the tooth that is being extracted, you will require either a surgical or simple extraction. A simple extraction is performed when the tooth is visible in the mouth. We will loosen the tooth in the jaw bone before pulling it out with forceps. When the situation is more complicated and the tooth to be removed cannot be seen we will surgically extract it by making an incision into the gum. The problem tooth will be removed through the incision.
There is a small amount of pain associated with having a tooth extracted, but this is easily managed and we will offer advice on how to do so. The pain should never be severe. Local anesthesia will be injected into your gums around the tooth to numb your mouth and minimize your discomfort during the procedure. All that you will feel is pressure as the tooth is pulled out.
We can also offer you laughing gas as extra pain relief and to help with your nerves. Ask us about using laughing gas when you call to book if you think you would like this option.
